Relay for Life - Hard Hats Against Cancer
Operating Engineers Federal Credit Union was proud to be a part of Relay for Life, Livermore held on June 23-24 at Livermore High School. Relay for Life is a 24-hour celebration of life. A volunteer driven event to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. OEFCU has been a part of Relay for the past four years, sponsoring the credit union’s team, Hard Hats Against Cancer, with this year being honored as a Gold level sponsor.
This was a landmark year for HHAC as they were awarded second place prize for “mission delivery” for spreading the word about the American Cancer Society. HHAC was also recognized as a Jade team level member for raising over $11k for the AMCS.
The 29 member team, made up of CU employees, family members, and friends camped overnight, walked the relay track, and manned a booth with raffle prizes. Fundraising for HHAC included community swap meets, basket sales and the publication of a special OEFCU employee cookbook.
“Our campsite had the best donation basket drawing,” stated Andrea Brooks, team captain for HHAC and Compliance Manager at OEFCU. “This year the crowd never seemed to thin out in front of our tent.”
Thanks to the efforts of OEFCU donors and volunteers, $1,500 was raised the day of the event with the sale of the baskets. Relay for Life, Livermore was made up of a total of 53 teams and combined raised over $239,000 for this special event.
